Where to keep it
- Keep the cylinder upright, on a flat, dry, steady surface, with good air around it.
- Keep it away from heat and flames: stove, heater, direct sun, and electric sparks from switches or sockets.
- Don't store it in a bedroom, a small closed room, a basement, or below ground level. LPG is heavier than air and can collect in low places.
- Keep children away from it, and don't keep spare cylinders stacked in the kitchen.
Connecting and using it
- Use a regulator and hose made for LPG, not an old cracked rubber pipe. Check the hose for cracks and replace it when it ages.
- Close the stove knobs and keep every flame away before you connect it. Follow the supplier's instructions, or ask the supplier to connect the regulator if you are not sure how.
- Close the cylinder valve when you finish cooking for the day, and always when you go out.
- Buy cylinders from a supplier you trust, and check the valve and seal for damage before accepting it.
If you smell gas
- Don't light anything and don't switch any light, fan or appliance on or off.
- If it is safe to reach, close the cylinder valve. Open doors and windows.
- Take everyone out of the house, then call the supplier or a trained gas mistri from outside. Don't go back until it has been checked.
- If the cylinder or hose is on fire, do not fight it. Get everyone away and call emergency services.
